Neurodivergent Community Spaces
Ember8 is a new organization with the goal of supporting neurodivergent youth in the Durham region. We started as the Oshawa Dungeons & Dragons club a social program for neurodivergent youth. Initially the program was run in partnership with Trent University and the City of Oshawa. Now the Oshawa Dungeons & Dragons Club runs as its own entity with support from Trent University Durham.
With youth coming from across the Durham region to take part in our program, and plans to expand what we offer, we needed a name that reflected our growth.
What is EMBER?
EMBER is Empowerment, Mentorship, Belonging, Engagement, and Respect. It encompasses our approach to youth programming, and reflects a neurodiversity affirming approach that we believe all neurodivergent youth deserve. We aim to create positive social spaces for neurodivergent youth, where we can all be proudly neurodivergent and make social connections with other neurodivergent people.
